Just Try Anything Now

Just try anything. Science high school, KAIST, Yonsei University Law School, lawyer, judge. A profile that holds up anywhere, yet he suddenly lost his sight and became visually impaired. Still, he decided to walk his path again, and he calmly writes down the story of his thoughts and his life.

This writing is neither a story of overcoming disability nor a book that tugs at the heartstrings line by line. It is an essay by judge Kim Dong-hyun, who lives together with disability, and it is a story of those around us. Everyone is different. But everyone is the same.

To think that only they are different, that they must be lacking, is prejudice. From this book I feel and learn many things. Even if someone calls it just putting a positive spin on things, it is still true. The past is only the past; we must accept it and plan for what lies ahead. Making a plan and taking one step forward is the best path I can take right now.

If you keep moving forward, you eventually arrive. Progress is not doing better than others but doing better than before. I, too, put my thoughts in order. To take one more step forward tomorrow. Starting with small goals, one at a time. Forward, onward.

To know that the things I took for granted may be precious to others, and to live with gratitude. To live without forgetting my first heart.
