Rich Dad Poor Dad. 20th Anniversary Special Edition by Robert Kiyosaki. To think the advice he gave 20 years ago still works—there really is so much for us to learn. A classic of economic books. For those who want to manage their own financial future, this book is suitable as a starting point.
The first edition of this book was published in '97 and has been tested over twenty years. The rich do not work for money; savers become losers; your house is not an asset. The rich pay less tax; anyone who works for money becomes a prime target for tax collection.
What the author figured out from watching the fathers is as follows. Poor father: I don't have money for that. Rich father: would not let those words be spoken. "How can I afford to buy that?" He explains that when the soon-to-be-rich father habitually says "I can't afford that," our thinking comes to a stop. Our brain becomes more powerful the more we use it, and the more powerful it becomes, the more money it earns.
Poor father: study hard and get a good job. Rich father: study hard and find a good place to invest. Poor father: the reason I can't get rich is because of you children.
Rich father: the reason I must get rich is because of you children. Above all, learn how to manage risk. Poor father: thought that companies or the government should take care of us and solve our needs.
Rich father: valued complete financial independence. He criticized the "entitlement mindset," thinking it makes people weak and financially vulnerable. Money is a form of power. But more powerful than that is knowledge about money. Money may come and go, but as long as you have knowledge about how money works, you can not only control money but also build wealth.
